At long last, there is positive news for some credit unions that have been patiently (or impatiently) waiting to issue debit EMV cards. PSCU has become certified on First Data’s debit platform and can now help its credit union customers with their debit EMV rollout plans.
PSCU, one of the nation’s largest CUSOs, is now certified to issue EMV debit cards on First Data’s Debit Solutions Platform and will begin deploying the cards via its 800+ member-owner credit unions across the country, according to a press release.
“We expect to see the first wave of member credit unions go live in the beginning of June, with others to follow soon after,”
PSCU President/CEO Chuck Fagan said.
There actually may be some benefit for debit issuers coming later in the U.S. EMV migration. As consumers become acclimated to their new EMV capable credit cards received months before, using debit cards with chips at merchant locations may become second nature.
