Chevron’s new Diesel Advantage Card is targeted at fleets with less than 20 vehicles that purchase at least 50,000 gallons of diesel fuel per year. The card operates on Fleetcor’s proprietary Fuelman network of gas stations, truck stops, and service centers. Even though the card’s no annual fee and discounted pricing will appeal to fleet operators, it may have trouble competing with Chevron’s cobranded MasterCard for merchant acceptance. FleetCor charges a 2.6% processing fee plus a 15-cent charge per transaction for the Diesel Advantage Card.
“It will be really tough for me to want to push that card,” said one wholesaler. “They say it’s cheaper than the fees on the WEX and Voyager cards, but I don’t think it’s less than the fees on the Chevron-branded fleet cards, so why should I use it?”
Chevron’s cobranded MasterCard issued by Regions Bank carries a 1.5% processing fee, and a 10-cent transaction fee, according to CSPnet.
