The Canadian mobile payments market is heating up, with the move toward EMV providing the necessary infrastructure to support NFC-based mobile payments should they arrive en masse at some point soon. The other side of the mobile payments coin, however – mobile money transfer – is already seeing some measure of adoption north of the border with EnStream’s Zoompass. This latest announcement from Western Union and EnStream is further evidence that Canadians are embracing the Zoompass mobile funds transfer paradigm. Western Union’s brand and cross-border capability will only strengthen the value proposition.
The Western Union Company and EnStream LP, creators of the Zoompass Mobile Wallet™, today announced a strategic alliance that will allow Zoompass users to send cross-border and domestic money transfers directly from their mobile phones.
Zoompass users in Canada will be able to send funds directly from their mobile wallets. Recipients will be able to pick up their funds in cash at more than 380,000 Western Union Agent locations in 200 countries and territories.
Zoompass users also will be able to send mobile-to-mobile transactions to subscribers of mobile phone companies with whom Western Union has launched the Mobile Money Transfer service.
