There's No Gift Like Plastic for the Holidays

Mercator Advisory Group’s holiday forecast of loads in the In-Store Gift Card segment of closed-loop prepaid cards predicts that the business will grow and again, most of the cards will be plastic.

Mercator Advisory Group’s own CustomerMonitor Survey Series found in 2011 that 57% of prepaid card buyers said that gift cards were a convenient type of gift to give and 53% said they bought gift cards to let a gift recipient pick out their own gift. In addition, 21% of gift givers said they bought a gift card because the recipient specifically requested a gift card, and 14% said recipients requested gift cards for a specific store.
