A leaked internal memo from Isis shows the mobile payments system will be launched in Salt Lake City and Austin on Oct. 22. In addition, the memo revealed consumers who wish to use Isis will have to apply for a custom Isis SIM card which contains an NFC chip. The app also will be disabled on devices that have been rooted.
To attract users, Isis will be providing financial incentives:
As part of the push to make Isis alluring for customers, users will get $10 when they activate Isis and an extra $15 when they “convert the Isis Cash Card to a reloadable prepaid card”. While only T-Mobile and Verizon have so far confirmed the bonus… AT&T would [likely] offer something similar.
Isis can be used with all merchants who support Visa PayWave, MasterCard PayPass, Discover Zip, American Express or Google Wallet.
